Awbury Community Garden
Membership
The Awbury Community Garden site is a part of an 18th-century farmstead, which was preserved by the Cope Family when they donated their estate, “Awbury”, to the public. The land has been in almost continuous farm use since European settlement of the area. We are a vibrant gardening community that welcomes all skill levels and fosters growth, education, and a love of sustainable growing practices at the Farm at Awbury. Our members have accumulated over 100 years of gardening experience!
Membership Includes
There are currently 51 10’ x 20’ ground-level plots and 20 smaller raised beds in the Awbury Community Garden. Gardeners pay $40 per gardening season for a plot, regardless of the size. We provide gardeners with two wheelbarrows of compost per plot per season, woodchips, water, and a variety of tools.
Bring their own gardening gloves and smaller hand tools.
Membership Expectations
Members are required to maintain their plot and the surrounding paths and participate in the communal effort of maintaining some of the things we share in common: our herb and flower beds, fruit trees and berry bushes, our perennial vegetable bed, watering the planters around the pavilion, keeping our shed tidy, our water system maintained, and our paths weed-whacked or mowed.
Attending workdays, planning meetings, and social events strengthen our Community!
The City Harvest Program provides us with seeds, seedlings, and supporting resources to grow healthy, organic, nutrient-dense food to feed ourselves, our families, and our community.
Drop us a message or visit us at the arboretum to learn more about our community gardening efforts.
